Super Bowl 2016 - Half time show

Typing this at 2.30 am UK time but … can we just talk about the Super Bowl half time show!?

I’ve said it before but if your team isn’t in the final (or if like me you know very little about American Football) then the half time show is what the Super Bowl is all about! That and buffalo wings, obviously.

Coldplay were good and all but Beyonce and Bruno Mars killed it! I mean KILLEDDDD it. The main things I learned from B’s performance were 1) how to make an entrance, 2) that the double slut drop is officially a thing and 3) it's ok to wear fishnets and a garter to the Super Bowl, because fashion. There were giant flowers, a dance off, a mash up and a throwback montage, what more could you ask for!? Ok ok so maybe an appearance from left shark would’ve been good but we can’t have it all. And no, they didn’t mention Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson during the montage - even though it’s arguably one of the most memorable moments in half time show history! We all know it happened SB, it’s not something you forget in a hurry.

Sport and music are two of my favourite things so to me the Super Bowl half time show will always be worth staying up for. Chris Martin’s outfit aside I think this years show was success and had a sort of Olympic ceremony style feel to it which we haven’t seen before. On a side note Lady Gaga rocked the national anthem in a glittery red pant suit so, that’s a thing I guess? And Queen B announced her Formation World tour. Sign me up because there’s no way I am missing that.

Highlights of the show and the game can be found here - http://www.nfl.com
What were your favourite moments of the night?

V pretty.

Grease Live

Well, after the third (and definitely not final) time watching Grease Live, it’s safe to say I am a huge fan (and hate myself even more for not being able to sing, act or dance.. in any way)

Whilst I was unsure at first and it was never going to beat the original, the new production was amazing and I can’t believe they did it all completely live. I can only imagine the chaos backstage! Those golf carts did look fun though..

The casting was close to perfect – to quote Anna Kendrick regarding Sandy - ‘this is the role Julianne Hough’s ass was born to play’ yes, yes it was, talk about a triple threat. We also need to talk about the bad Sandy transformation, I mean, those shoes!! I could barely walk in those never mind act, dance, run and sing all at the same time. Kudos Miss Hough, for the performance and for not face planting in front of 12 million people. Aaron Tveit (aka Trip from Gossip Girl heyy) was great as Danny Zuko but the surprise of the night for me was Jordan Fisher as Doody, what a little cutie and those glasses.. who knew!! The standout performance of the night was delivered by none other than Vanessa Hudgens, who had a tough time with her father dying the day before the show went live. I have to admit I’m not the biggest Vanessa fan however this performance really was fantastic, her vocals were on point and girl has sass. Peachy keen jelly bean!

Naturally there were a few technical glitches and let’s not mention the car race.. but by the end everyone was having so much fun that it didn’t matter! Fox made a fun and refreshing update to the original, bringing iconic songs to a whole new generation. Cameos galore, crazy choreography and amazing costumes I think Grease has raised the bar for live/tv musicals and I can only hope we see more of the same in the future..

So congrats to the cast and the crew on a truly successful show – Grease is the word. Also - shoutout to Chrissy Teigen who had the best live-tweeting of the night by far!

Idris Elba for James Bond!

Following last nights double SAG award win (which made history btw!) I am certain that Idris Elba should be the next James Bond - if he wants to of course!

He’s slick, suave and the ladies love him – not to mention he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Amidst the drama of diversity within Hollywood I think now more than ever we should have our first black James Bond, but to be honest in my opinion Idris should be Bond not because he is black but because he is a great actor and one I believe could fill the neatly polished shoes of Bond, James Bond.

Born and raised in London I would like to think Elba as Bond would bring a new and refreshing take on the role and would follow on nicely from Daniel Craig’s sterling effort. I mean did you see Luther!? He is one of Britain’s most versatile and hard working actors and quite frankly is a total babe, a necessity for any Bond let’s face it!

Only time will tell who the next Bond will be but one thing is for sure, 2016 is Idris Elba’s year and I am sure he will be successful in whatever he does.

What are your thoughts, who would you like to see at the next 007?

Gilmore Girls returns!!

It's official, it's confirmed, it’s really happening… Coffee cups at the ready people, Gilmore Girls is coming back!! Netflix, we thank you, you truly are amazing. (www.netflix.com

Gilmore Girls was one of my favourite shows growing up and I was forever wanting to move to a town like Stars Hollow… even though everyone who lived there was trying to get out! It wasn’t your classic teen show such as 90210, Gossip Girl, Friday Night Lights etc but that’s why I loved it and still love it to this day.

If you haven’t seen it before Gilmore Girls is a drama following a mother daughter duo, navigating through life in a sleepy, tight knit town. There’s no action or major drama but it’s captivating and down to earth viewing which is why so many people love it. Not to mention that it boasts a stellar cast, most notably giving now famous actress Melissa McCarthy her big break along with many others! It’s realistic, funny, heart-breaking and a show which makes you truly believe and fall in love with the characters… and that’s why I am so glad it’s coming back!! To this day I still think Dean is my soulmate (yes I know he's not real, a girl can dream).

The Golden Globes 2016

Last year one of my very first blog posts was about how much I love the Golden Globes (here, if you want to have a read) and I’m back again this year writing about my all time favourite awards show!

It doesn’t have the glamour or prestige of the Oscars or the Baftas here in the UK, but what it does bring is the fun! Now I don’t think anyone will ever top the now infamous hosting efforts of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler but this year’s host, Ricky Gervais, did a great job and to quote Amy Adams you don’t step away from hosting for a few years then come back with nothing to say!

A full list of the winners can be found here – but for me the Golden Globes is about a fun filled night celebrating the best of years showbiz, and of course looking at what everyone’s wearing, who makes the most offensive joke and who gets drunk first (in this case Amy Schumer).

My highlights of the night included –
  • Zendaya dressed as the dancing girl emoji
  • Taraji P Henson giving out cookies when she won then shouting at the producers when they tried to cut her off during her speech. My kind of lady.
  • Leonardo Dicaprio’s face when Lady Gaga walks past. He's single again btw.... ;)
  • Eva Longoria and America Ferrera bringing the LOL's about people mixing up Hispanic Actresses. I mean come on people!
  • Jennifer Lawrence. Will she just win awards forever now or..?

Favourite outfit of the night:  Alicia Vikander. So very pretty and what an adorable accent.

Worst hairstyle of the night:

Oh Channing Tatum.. what happened! Is he channelling Justin Bieber, a 90’s boyband member, did he forget to cut that one little lonely strand of hair at the front… Either way I need it to stop!

Like I said the Golden Globes is the awards show for me, if anyone ever wants to take me as their date one year I’m available.. for any year just name it, I'm there.

What were your highlights of the evening, and who do you think will win the Oscar!?

Making a Murderer

So my Twitter and Facebook is covered, as I imagine yours is, with people's thoughts on Netflix' new documentary series 'Making a Murderer'.

To cut a long story short, it's about a guy in America called Steven Avery who was jailed for 18 years for a crime he didn't commit, on his release he subsequently sued the police department only to be arrested for murder 2 years later, a crime which he categorically denies. I won't go into too much detail as it's pretty intense but I am assuming if you are reading this you have watched at least some part of the documentary!

Now normally I love jumping on a bandwagon, sharing my opinions/theories and seeing what other people think. Normally this is about a fictional programme which doesn't really affect anyones lives (shout out to Pretty Little Liars) but this time it feels different and I almost don't want to share my opinions as this is a true story, with a real victim and no script writers to clarify what happened.

It's for this reason that I I think people are so intrigued by a real life documentary. No on really knows what happened, no one can write a script and everyone wants to know the truth. It's as infuriating as it is interesting to watch and I can't remember the last time this type of documentary had so many people my age talking. It's also unleashed an army of wannabe lawyers which is comical to watch but also rather annoying (yes you've seen Legally Blonde but this does not make you an expert in the Federal Justice System of America!!)

I'm still trying to work out if this documentary is a good thing or a bad thing and with a petition to the White House to re-open the case I am interested to see what will happen next.

I am not going to offer my opinions as there is no way of telling if we know the whole story, I haven't seen all the evidence and I am not qualified to make a decision. To be honest I don't even know what I think! All I do know is that the police investigation surrounding the case is sketchy, Steven Avery is sketchy and this was definitely worth re-starting my Netflix subscription even though Orange is the New Black doesn't start again for months!

Let me know your thoughts on this Documentary, I am genuinely interested to hear what people think!
