My Events Career. So far...

So if you’ve read my blog before you will know that I work in the events industry (which I LOVE!) and so far I’ve mainly worked on large international sporting events, although I hope to branch out a bit more this year.

I have had the opportunity to work all over the world, where I've met some amazing people and been a part of some truly memorable events.

As the saying goes all good things must come to an end and my most recent event has now finished (boo!). I am currently looking for my next role - whatever and wherever that may be! So in the meantime I have created a short video montage of some of the events I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of in the last 2 years.

Here’s hoping there’s many more to come!! (also if you happen to be looking for an event/operations manager… I know someone. It's me in case you didn't get that)

*when putting this together I realised I definitely don’t take enough pictures/videos… there’s so much I missed!

Super Bowl 2016 - Half time show

Typing this at 2.30 am UK time but … can we just talk about the Super Bowl half time show!?

I’ve said it before but if your team isn’t in the final (or if like me you know very little about American Football) then the half time show is what the Super Bowl is all about! That and buffalo wings, obviously.

Coldplay were good and all but Beyonce and Bruno Mars killed it! I mean KILLEDDDD it. The main things I learned from B’s performance were 1) how to make an entrance, 2) that the double slut drop is officially a thing and 3) it's ok to wear fishnets and a garter to the Super Bowl, because fashion. There were giant flowers, a dance off, a mash up and a throwback montage, what more could you ask for!? Ok ok so maybe an appearance from left shark would’ve been good but we can’t have it all. And no, they didn’t mention Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson during the montage - even though it’s arguably one of the most memorable moments in half time show history! We all know it happened SB, it’s not something you forget in a hurry.

SQUAD GOALS (minus the random on the right!?)

Sport and music are two of my favourite things so to me the Super Bowl half time show will always be worth staying up for. Chris Martin’s outfit aside I think this years show was success and had a sort of Olympic ceremony style feel to it which we haven’t seen before. On a side note Lady Gaga rocked the national anthem in a glittery red pant suit so, that’s a thing I guess? And Queen B announced her Formation World tour. Sign me up because there’s no way I am missing that.

Highlights of the show and the game can be found here - http://www.nfl.com
What were your favourite moments of the night?

V pretty.

Grease Live

Well, after the third (and definitely not final) time watching Grease Live, it’s safe to say I am a huge fan (and hate myself even more for not being able to sing, act or dance.. in any way)

Whilst I was unsure at first and it was never going to beat the original, the new production was amazing and I can’t believe they did it all completely live. I can only imagine the chaos backstage! Those golf carts did look fun though..

The casting was close to perfect – to quote Anna Kendrick regarding Sandy - ‘this is the role Julianne Hough’s ass was born to play’ yes, yes it was, talk about a triple threat. We also need to talk about the bad Sandy transformation, I mean, those shoes!! I could barely walk in those never mind act, dance, run and sing all at the same time. Kudos Miss Hough, for the performance and for not face planting in front of 12 million people. Aaron Tveit (aka Trip from Gossip Girl heyy) was great as Danny Zuko but the surprise of the night for me was Jordan Fisher as Doody, what a little cutie and those glasses.. who knew!! The standout performance of the night was delivered by none other than Vanessa Hudgens, who had a tough time with her father dying the day before the show went live. I have to admit I’m not the biggest Vanessa fan however this performance really was fantastic, her vocals were on point and girl has sass. Peachy keen jelly bean!

Naturally there were a few technical glitches and let’s not mention the car race.. but by the end everyone was having so much fun that it didn’t matter! Fox made a fun and refreshing update to the original, bringing iconic songs to a whole new generation. Cameos galore, crazy choreography and amazing costumes I think Grease has raised the bar for live/tv musicals and I can only hope we see more of the same in the future..

So congrats to the cast and the crew on a truly successful show – Grease is the word. Also - shoutout to Chrissy Teigen who had the best live-tweeting of the night by far!

6 Nations and Super Bowl Sunday!

It’s a big weekend for Sport this week – we’ve got the start of the 6 nations here in the UK/Europe and the one and only Super Bowl Sunday over in the USA. Both games similar in nature but miles apart in reality!!

I am of course supporting my home nation Scotland in the rugby and am impartial when it comes to the Super Bowl.. actually that’s not true I’m supporting Beyonce, who is playing alongside headliners Coldplay in the half time show (yes B!). From the Janet Jackson saga of ’04 to last years performance by Katy Perry which gave us the now infamous left shark, the half time show is almost as important as the game. Having learned everything I know about American Football from watching Friday Night Lights I can safely say I enjoy the spectacle but am still not quite down with the rules - it's great to watch though! For those of you in the UK you can watch the Broncos v Panthers on BBC, with the Super Bowl coverage kicking off at 22.40 GMT.

Whichever team you support, this weekend is fun for everyone and I love when people from across the world come together for big events, especially those who aren’t usually into sport. My old boss is actually over in San Francisco right now working on the Super Bowl and says the atmosphere is electric already and the 6 nations is completely sold out so you know it’s going to be an exciting weekend!

Who are you supporting this Saturday and Sunday, let me know in the comments!
